“ Jai available 365 days a year. That's rare! And theirs is yummy. Tucked away next to Longs in Kaimuki. ”
“ Good spot to get take out when you dont feel like cooking. They have their menu on the board but like any good places, also have pictures and the specials posted all around the wall. There is a good size dining area if you choose to dine in but all orders are placed at the counter and there is no table service. I ordered beef chow funn, singapore vermicelli and they were all tasty and good portioned. ”
“ Lunch in Kaimuki, Honolulu, Hawaii... My friends and I wanted to take advantage of the free metered street parking on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday and selected a restaurant on Kapahulu Avenue. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed. Uhg! We all pulled out our Yelp apps and searched for another venue. Many of us hadn't been to Fairwood Drive Inn, so we headed over to Kaimuki Shopping Center. The free shared parking lot is on two levels. The lower level is most known for Times Supermarket. Upstairs is Longs Drugs Store, Cookie Corner, and Hawaii State Federal Credit Union. Fairwood Drive Inn is on the upper level at the far end, closest to 5th Avenue. The interior was clean and well-lit with adequate air-conditioning. There were some tables with merchandise for sale and other tables for dining in. We ordered at the counter, took a seat, and the gal brought our food to some of us that she remembered. For the others, she called out menu items when they were ready for pick up. I heard that Peter Y. chose the soft wonton min (gravy style noodles with dumplings). I got that, too, since he is a regular at this restaurant. I liked it! There were some shrimp, cha siu, and veggies on top of the soft noodles. It was comfort food - not too salty and not too dry, but just right! I'd return and try the jai, pho, and summer rolls next time! Note: I bussed our friend's empty bowl. He had pho. We're supposed to bring used dishes to the cashier. He didn't see the sign. Since I was at the counter, I asked the gal if I could have the Year of the Rabbit decoration because the year is almost done. She let me take it off the wall! Thank you! P.S. the restroom is outside and upstairs. Ask for the key from the cashier. ”
“ We were going to have lunch at another restaurant, but due to the holiday, that restaurant was closed. After a pow wow outside the closed restaurant, we decided to have lunch at Fairwood Drive Inn. When you enter the restaurant, you will notice that that wall is full of pictures. This is your menu. You order at the counter, and the food is brought out to your table. The service was friendly. I ordered the Local Boy plate. It came with char sui, teriyaki, and breaded chicken. Of course, rice and Mac salad. I did like my meal. Overall it was a good choice. Enjoy ”
“ Been going to this restaurant for over 20 years and it is definitely one of my favorites. I always get the mapo tofu with fried rice. I haven't found a mapo tofu that compares! When I want to mix it up I also enjoy the chicken cutlet with gravy all over, loco moco, crispy gau gee and their French fries. If you need to cater, it is a must to get a platter of their honey garlic chicken! It is a local favorite and everyone will love you. Give it a try and support this family run business! ”
